1983-1985 – studied Visual Arts at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).  1983-1985 – studied Photography at the Escuela Activa de Fotografía and the Casa de las Imágenes.  1985-89 – participated in the Taller de los Lunes, a workshop for young photographers at the Consejo Mexicano de la Fotografía, founded by Pedro Meyer.  1986 – coursework toward a Bachelor's degree in History at the National School of Anthropology and History.  1983 – worked as assistant to Manuel Álvarez Bravo.

 

Since 1983 she has taken photography courses and workshops in Spain, Austria, New York and Mexico with the following: Jan Saudek, Duane Michals, Eikoh Hosoe, Philip Brookman and Jim Goldberg, Tony Catany, Alex Webb, Mary Ellen Mark, Carlos Jurado, Pablo Ortiz Monasterio, Clarissa Sligh, Raymundo Mier, Beatriz Novaro and Mark Klett, among others.

 

She began exhibiting individually in 1993 and has had solo shows in Spain, Austria, Germany and Mexico.  Beginning in 1983 her work has been included in group exhibitions in Mexico, Austria, Spain, Italy, Finland, Canada, the Czech Republic, England, etc.  Between 1994 and 1995 she completed various projects in collaboration with the artist Marcos Kurticz, including installations, performances and photography exhibitions.

 

In 2000 the Spanish publishing house Mestizo published Album, a book of photographs and texts that was completed with the support of the Austrian Ministry of Culture and the Mexican National Fund for Culture and the Arts. This book was printed in Spanish, German and English.  In 2001 an exhibition designed to accompany to the book was presented at the Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City, and in 2002 it was presented in the Casa de América in Madrid as part of the international festival PhotoEspaña, traveling thereafter to Murcia and Tenerife.

 

Reviews of her work have been published in the periodicals La Jornada, Reforma, el Financiero, El Nacional, El País, Art in America, etc.  She has been interviewed for a variety of radio and television programs, including Óptico on Channel 22 in Mexico City. In 2008 Roberto Sepúlveda completed a documentary about her work for TV-UNAM at the National Autonomous University of Mexico.  Her photographs have appeared in books published in Spain, Austria, Mexico, Argentina, etc.

 

Between 1990 and 1993 she worked in the Photography Division of the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, organizing workshops and exhibitions. From January 1994 to October 1998 she founded and coordinated the workshop program at the Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City.  In 1998 she collaborated as co-curator of the exhibition Looking at the 90's for FotoFest in Houston, Texas.

 

Since 1995 she has given various photography courses at the Centro de la Imagen, among other institutions.  Beginning in 2007 she has worked as coordinator, adviser and tutor in the Seminar on Contemporary Photography, held at the Centro de la Imagen.  She has given presentations about her work in different contexts, such as the ARCO International Contemporary Art Fair, the Meeting on Ibero-American Photography, and the Museum of Contemporary art in Monterrey, Mexico.

 

Between 2002 and 2006 she was the coordinator of FotoGuanajuato, which included completing a yearly program of photography studies, and a bi-annual meeting which consisted of roundtables, exhibitions, revision of portfolios and workshops, among other activities.

 

She has been a member on the juries of various photography competitions, including, among others, the scholarship program Artes por Todas Partes [Art for All] through the Government of the Federal District, Mexico (2005), and scholarships offered through the Hidalgo State Fund for Culture and the Arts (2007), during which time she also served as tutor for recipients of the scholarship.

 

In 2010 she was twice times a member of the selection comitee for the Visual Arts division of the National System of Art Creators.

 

In 2011 she taught the workshop Photography, personal experience and actions: Photography as a necessary act, in the Gimnasio de Arte, Mexico City.

 

She curated the exhibition Preterite Imperfect, featuring photographers Elizabeth Vink, Annick Donkers, and Elizabeth Andriópulos. Faro de Oriente, March 2012.
